New Stuff

I just finished a couple of new pieces for my etsy shop. As you can see, I am in a color theme of predominately turquoise. The basket is made from the same sheet of felt paper as the pouch in the previous post, but cut and woven rather than leaving it solid. It is ornamented with 2 pence coins, hammered copper wire, and a copper tag with the word "gratitude" stamped into it.
The clock is a wooden base that is shaped like a bird house that I collaged with dress pattern pieces, newspaper clippings, and paint. The scrabble letter words remind us that "Time Flies, Be Happy." Life is too short to dwell on the negative things around us. We get caught up in the cares of the day and forget to be grateful for the good things in our lives. The little winged girl on the clock is a picture of my grandmother taken around 1904. She is pouting because she dropped her rose petals and her parents and the photographer wouldn't let her pick them up. I think it is interesting that the story of the photo was preserved so that now, over a hundred years later, we have insight into the person in the picture.

New basket for Etsy

I just finished a new piece to add to my etsy shop. Actually I added 3 pieces but if you want to see the others you will have to visit my shop.
This piece is a hanging basket/pouch made of heavy roofing felt, that has been painted, stamped, collaged, and embellished. The pouch measures 7" x 8 1/2 inches, excluding the handle, which is made of recycled copper electrical wire. The pouch is collaged with old dress patterns, a 1967 newspaper, and an old ledger. The photo on the front is a digital collage that I created from a vintage photo. Sewn across the top, are 5 vintage buttons, and the sides are crocheted together with fluffy yarn. The quote is from Picasso, "Art washes away from the soul the dust of everyday life." You can hang this from a wall or doorknob and store things in it. I use mine to put my bills in and another for paintbrushes and pencils.
I am trying extra hard, to put up things for sale because I want to earn some extra money for our travel for our older son's wedding coming up. The wedding will be on the beach in Florida. We are so excited for them. I can hardly wait and I feel their anticipation deeply.
